Upgrading SPDC’s Early Processing Facility (EPF) – : Obunagha Community, Bayelsa State, Nigeria

Project One

Early Processing Facility (EPF) Upgrade

Upgrading SPDCโ€™s Early Processing Facility (EPF) โ€“ Obunagha Community,
Bayelsa

Comprehensive Overview Of Early Processing Facility (EPF) Upgrade

Pakchil Integrated Services, acting as a subcontractor under Essteran (a U.S.-based
engineering firm), was engaged to execute mechanical upgrades for Shell Petroleum
Development Company (SPDC) in Nigeriaโ€™s Niger Delta region.

The project took place in Obunagha Community, Bayelsa State, as part of an effort to
enhance the Early Processing Facility (EPF) supplying SPDCโ€™s Central Processing Facility.

The Challenge

The existing EPF infrastructure was underperforming due to aged valves and degraded pipeline
sections. Efficiency and reliability were critical, given the EPFโ€™s role as a feeder system to the
larger processing plant.
SPDC needed:

โ— Reliable flow output
โ— Minimum disruption during upgrades
โ— Sensitive handling of host community relations.

Our Role & Solution

As part of the Pakchil Integrated Services team, we played a key role in:
โ— Mechanical scope delivery including:
โ—‹ Complete replacement of pipeline sections
โ—‹ Valve upgrades
โ—‹ Structural improvement of the processing line

โ— Ensuring upgrades were done with minimal downtime
In addition, we prioritized corporate social responsibility (CSR). Our team initiated an
on-the-job training program that:
โ— Employed and trained unskilled locals directly on-site
โ— Paid equal wages to trainees during the project lifecycle
โ— Provided stipends to elderly community members (a gesture of goodwill and
empowerment)

Results & Impact

โ— The EPF was upgraded to ensure efficient, consistent supply to the CPF
โ— Mechanical replacements improved safety and reliability of the processing infrastructure
โ— The community training effort created new skilled laborers and strengthened local
relations
